Enjoy Early Medieval Shoes, Jorvik Type
Shoes from the early middle ages, jorvik type
These ankle-high shoes are based on archaeological finds from the city of York in northern England, the first Jorvik. They were made. They date back to the 9th and 10th centuries, a time when England was divided into many smaller kingdoms. The Anglo-Saxon population had to defend themselves against constant Viking raids. Many Vikings settled in England. York was also conquered by the Danes and ruled by the Norse for around 100 years.
Since these shoes date back to this period, they can definitely be described as Viking shoes. A special feature is the two buttons used to close the shoes. Incidentally, these can also be replaced with horn or bone buttons. The sole is made of smooth leather and has a small heel.
Details:
- Material: cowhide
- Robust leather case (approx. 2 mm thick)
- Nailed leather sole: approx. 6 mm thick
- Color: dark brown
- Available as standard in sizes: 40 to 47
Please note:
The robustness of shoes based on historical patterns may not meet modern requirements! They are quite sensitive to asphalt, concrete blocks, and gravel. These floor coverings did not exist in the Middle Ages! Therefore, we recommend using rubber soles from your chosen shoemaker if you walk a lot on hard surfaces. We would also like to point out that leather is a natural product, and variations in color and/or grain are quite common. Therefore, no two pairs of these leather shoes are alike, and the images above are for illustrative purposes only.
This is a ulfberth ® product.
