Kuhmaul shoes

The cowmaul shoe, also known as the ochsenmaul , is a form of shoe from the early 16th century that was worn by both men and women and was developed during this period, the time almost becoming part of the typical clothing of the landsknecht . The shape of the shoe is characterized by a flat body and a wide toe box, similar to the slit clothing of the landsknecht. It is decorated with elliptical recesses. A strap with a buckle crossing the instep serves as a closure. The sole was fixed by the stable nailing method.

Attention:
The sturdiness of shoes based on historical patterns may not meet modern requirements! They are quite sensitive to asphalt, concrete blocks and gravel. These floor coverings did not exist in the Middle Ages! Therefore, we recommend wearing boots, insoles if necessary or equipping them with rubber soles from the shoemaker of your choice.
