The Orkney Islands form Scotland's northernmost whisky region. Orkney whiskies are full-bodied and balanced, and also have a distinctive salty, seaweed character. The high humidity slows the aging process, resulting in a more balanced maturation. There are only two whisky distilleries in Orkney: Highland Park and Scapa. The whisky cask no. 13, filled in 2009, that we selected for the third release of our Einherjer Edition, comes from one of these two distilleries. This single malt matured in Hogshead Refill Bourbon for over 13 years until we finally release it for you.

Whiskey is a beer with its origins in distillation, so it's no surprise that many brewers are also passionate about distilled barley juice. In the Einherjer Edition, the brewers at the Wacken Brewery have put together an excellent selection of premium single malts bottled exclusively for the Wacken Brewery.

A whisky distilled and aged in the Orkney Islands fits perfectly into our Einherjer edition, as the archipelago was inhabited by Norwegian Vikings in the 8th and 9th centuries. Even today, its residents still feel connected to their Nordic ancestors.

This unnamed Orkney single malt is deliberately not chill-filtered. To avoid excessive cloudiness, it was reduced to 46% vol. The alcohol was removed. This gives the whisky a particularly intense flavor.

Tasting impressions:

- Smell:

Very complex: vanilla, pear, green apple and a light herbal note

- Flavor:

The maltiness powerfully carries a wave of salty sea to the palate, accompanied by a light smoky note, oak, honey and nutmeg.

End:

The aforementioned aromatic spectrum fades slowly and harmoniously. A smoky vanilla note remains, full-bodied, gradually fading away, and the palate finally awaits the next sip.
