The appearance and cut of this gugel are based on an archaeological find dating from the 13th to the 12th centuries. In 1936, a fully clothed corpse was discovered on the farm at Skjoldehamn in Norway. It has not yet been clearly determined whether the corpse was a man or a woman. The tapered hem at the chest and the square inset there are characteristic of the hood worn by the corpse.



The cut of the gugel offered here consists mainly of rectangles. It has a small drawstring at the neck so that it can be individually adjusted. The hood is worn as a separate hood and covers only the shoulders. It is made of 100% cotton (canvas or tarpaulin ) and is therefore not waterproof. However, a certain water-repellent effect can be achieved with a little waterproofing spray.



If you look closely, the hood does not historically belong to the Viking Age, but both men and women like to wear it to complete their Viking outfit. But this headdress is also a nice complement to all other costumes from the High Middle Ages.
