Viking blood is named after its characteristic reddish colour, which is obtained by adding hibiscus. However, hibiscus not only gives the honey wine its distinctive colour, but in combination with ginger and other spices it also provides an aromatic, spicy and floral flavour.



To make honey wines, dansk mjød relies on old, traditional recipes with the addition of juices and herbs. Another special feature of many Danish meads is that fermentation is stopped by adding alcohol. This gives the honey wine an unusual strength, which is kept in check by the remaining residual sweetness and achieves a liqueur-like smoothness and balance.
