Early medieval gudrun dress, blue/red



The loose-fitting dress has slightly flared 3/4 sleeves and so-called geren that are set into the waist at the side. Geren are wedge-shaped pieces of fabric that gave medieval clothing its generous hem. The special thing about this dress are the contrasting coloured details. These make it clear that this is an outer garment from the High Middle Ages. The neckline has a small slit in the middle of the back, which is closed with a button. The dress is made of plain cotton fabric and should be worn with a leather belt.



The appearance and cut of the dress are based on archaeological finds ( 6th century Lady of Asseln ) and depictions from the early Middle Ages ( 9th century Stuttgart Psalter ). Typical of this period are long outer garments, simple cuts consisting mainly of rectangles and details in contrasting colours. The dress is therefore the ideal garment for all Vikings, Lombards, Merovingians and Franks.
