the aesir god tyr is the god of battle, war and victory. his courage is unmatched, as the edda tells us. in order to bind the dangerous fenris wolf, tyr puts his right hand down the monster's throat as a pawn.

When the wolf realises that the gods want to bind him, he quickly bites Tyr's hand off. From now on, the god of war wields his sword in his left hand. In Ragnarök, he uses it to kill Garm, the hellhound, but he himself dies in the process...
