The Aesir god Tyr is the god of battle, war, and victory. His courage is unmatched, as the Edda tells us. In order to bind the dangerous Fenris Wolf, Tyr thrusts his right hand into the monster's throat like a pawn.

When the wolf realizes the gods want to bind him, he quickly bites Tyr's hand. From now on, the god of war wields his sword with his left hand. In Ragnarök, he uses it to kill Garm, the hellhound, but is killed in the process.
