Trippen, medieval wooden socks

Trippen are wooden leggings that were worn under delicate, reversible shoes in the Middle Ages. The reason for this was the heavily polluted and largely unpaved streets and alleys in the cities. The expression "to trip" comes from these leggings and is probably of onomatopoeic origin.

Our casings are made from a single piece of poplar wood and have leather tabs nailed on.

Trippen are available for the following shoe sizes:
38, 40, 42, 44, 46 Where our trippen are laced and a shoe size 39 can also be worn on a trippen size 38 or 40. .
