Forged Tomahawks
High-quality Cold Steel® tomahawks are precision forged from 1055 carbon steel. When producing impact tools, especially those with a cutting edge, drop forging offers many distinct advantages. Using multiple dies (hollow molds/dies) connected to massive forging hammers, the steel is formed step by step into a completely homogeneous mass and impact-pressed to achieve uniform grain flow and minimize defect formation. All Cold Steel® tomahawks are also differentially hardened: the cutting edge and striking surface of the hammer are fully hardened for sharpness, while the rest of the head remains softer to absorb shock and impact.

The Cold Steel® Trail Hawk is modeled after an earlier Wild West frontier axe and is popular with survivalists, preppers, and outdoor enthusiasts due to its versatility and durability. It's an excellent splitting tool and can drive nails or stakes using the functional hammer with a hardened face on the other side of the head.
