Discover Hand Forged Medieval Scissors, Articulated Scissors.

Medieval articulated scissors, hand forged

The medieval scissors offered here are handmade. Each half of the scissors was forged in one piece and then both halves were riveted together in the middle. The stems are elegantly curved upwards and form generous scissor eyes. This makes the scissors easier to hold and handle, even with larger hands. The forging marks have been deliberately preserved to give the historical scissors a rustic and authentic character, and the surface has been blackened to increase rust resistance. Although these medieval scissors are fully functional, the blades have only been sharpened. If necessary, the cutting edges would need to be sharpened to improve their sharpness.

While the earliest evidence of the use of so-called ironing shears dates back to the 15th century bc 100 bc in mesopotamia and ancient egypt, modern hinged scissors (two blades mounted crosswise on a shaft) first appeared in ancient rome around 100 ad. Although ironing shears were not ultimately able to replace ironing scissors in europe until the renaissance, they were already in use in the middle ages, as can be seen for example in the tailor's window in freiburg minster (13th century). their basic design and functionality have remained virtually unchanged since then and they are still used in a wide variety of ways.

This fine and visually appealing piece of ironwork is perfect for everyday inventory at medieval markets and reenactment/living history events, and makes a great decorative accessory for any medieval seamstress, herbalist, or barber.

Details:

- Eyes: approx. 7.5 x 4 cm each
- Weight: approx. 172 g

Please note:

The above specifications may vary slightly from copy to copy. Since these scissors are a hand-forged product, no two pieces are the same! Slight deviations in shape and/or surface caused by manual work are absolutely normal, and the images above are for exemplary purposes only. The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion. We recommend that you take care of the scissors regularly, for example with Ballistol, a universal oil ideal for preserving steel products.
