Discover Medieval Spring Steel Ironing Shears, Hand Forged.

Medieval ironing shears hand forged in spring steel

- Based on an original find we have ( see last illustration ). -

The handmade medieval scissors offered here are forged from a single piece of spring steel. The surface is not treated to preserve its rustic and authentic character. Although these medieval scissors are fully functional and have been tested on paper and cardboard, the blades of the scissors have only been sharpened. If necessary, the cutting edges should be sharpened to improve their sharpness.

The first evidence of the use of so-called ironing shears dates back to the 15th century BC in Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt. Bow scissors were used throughout Ancient Rome, the Viking Age and the entire Middle Ages and were not eventually replaced by modern articulated scissors later in the Renaissance. Their basic design and functionality remained virtually unchanged throughout their history.

This fine, solid piece of ironwork is perfect for everyday stock at medieval markets and reenactment/living history events, and is a great accessory for any medieval seamstress, herbalist or shepherd, barber or barbershop.

Details:

- Material: forged spring steel (oxidized)

- Total length: approx. 18.5cm

- Cut: approx. 9.2 cm

- Maximum width: approx. 3.3 cm.
- Weight: approx. 50 g

Please note:

The above specifications may vary slightly from copy to copy. Since this is a hand-forged product, no two pieces are the same! Slight deviations in shape and/or surface due to handwork are quite normal, and the pictures above are just examples. The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight traces of corrosion. We recommend that you regularly care for the scissors, for example with Ballistol, a universal oil ideal for preserving steel products.
