Discover medieval ironing scissors made of spring steel, hand-forged.

Medieval ironing scissors hand forged in spring steel

- Based on an original finding in our possession ( see last illustration ). -

The handmade medieval scissors we offer here are forged from a single piece of spring steel. The surface is untreated to preserve its rustic and authentic character. Although these medieval scissors are fully functional and have been tested on paper and cardboard, the blades have only been sharpened. If necessary, the edges would need to be honed to improve their sharpness.

The first records of the use of so-called ironing scissors date back to the 15th century BC in Mesopotamia and ancient Egypt. Bow scissors were used throughout ancient Rome, the Viking Age, and the Middle Ages, and were not ultimately replaced by modern hinged scissors later in the Renaissance. Their basic design and functionality remained virtually unchanged throughout their history.

This fine, solid piece of ironwork is perfect for everyday stock at medieval markets and reenactment/living history events, and is a great accessory for any medieval seamstress, herbalist or shepherd, barber, or barber.

Details:

- Material: forged spring steel (oxidized)

- Total length: approx. 18.5cm

- Cut: approx. 9.2 cm

- Maximum width: approx. 3.3 cm.
- Weight: approx. 50 g

Please note:

The above specifications may vary slightly from one copy to another. Since this is a hand-forged product, no two pieces are alike! Slight deviations in shape and/or surface due to manual work are quite normal, and the images above are only examples. The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight traces of corrosion. We recommend regularly maintaining the scissors, for example with Ballistol, a universal oil ideal for preserving steel products.
