Acquire Thermopylae 480 BC - Last Stand of the 300s, Cam188

Thermopylae 480 BC: last resistance of the 300
(Campaign 188)

Author: Nic Fields
Illustrator: Steve Noon

Paperback; November 2007; 96 pages

About this book:
An authoritative account of one of the greatest tales of heroism of all time and a defining moment in world history: Leonidas and the 300 Spartans. The fight to the death against overwhelming Persian forces preserved the future of Greece and the golden age of classical civilization. Nic Fields vividly describes the Battle for the Pass of Thermopylae when the combined Greek forces held off Xerxes' army, buying time for a retreat that would save Greece. Lavishly illustrated and featuring full-color artwork, detailed maps, and dramatic battle scenes, this is an in-depth analysis of one of the most famous acts of resolute defense in the face of overwhelming odds.

The authors:
Dr. Nic Fields began his career as a biochemist before joining the Royal Marines. After leaving the army, he returned to university and completed a BA and PhD in ancient history at the University of Newcastle. He was Vice-Principal of the British School in Athens, Greece, and then Professor of Ancient History at the University of Edinburgh. Nic is now an independent author and researcher based in southwest France.

Steve Noon was born in Kent, United Kingdom, and attended art school in Cornwall. He has had a lifelong passion for illustration and has worked as a professional artist since 1985. Steve has provided award-winning illustrations for the renowned publisher Dorling Kindersley, where his interest in historical illustration began.
