Tekija balteus, Roman belt



Authentic replica of a Roman balteus from the Flavian period (second half of the 1st century AD). The brass belt fittings are based on findings in Tekija (Serbia).



The balteus (also called cinctorium ) was the belt of senior officers in ancient Rome. The gladius (sword) was worn on the right side.



The belt has no pteriges (apron), but has two discs to hold a pugios (dagger).
