In Norse mythology, the evergreen ash tree Yggdrasil is the world axis that connects the upper world, the earth, and the underworld. As the embodiment of the entire cosmos or all of creation, this sacred tree is a symbol of knowledge, life, decay, renewal, and ultimately, immortality.
