Tatami Omote for Tameshigiri – The Test of True Steel

Where the blade finds its way through resistance, the truth of the edge is born. The omote tatami is not just a straw mat: it is the field where the swordsman's skill and the nobility of the katana are tested.

For centuries, samurai warriors honed not only their blades, but also their spirits, facing these mats in an ancient rite known as tameshigiri . Today, this art lives on in every precise cut, in every mat that falls cleanly divided by the steel.

This 180 x 90 cm Omote Tatami is a faithful heir to that tradition. Woven from natural straw, it's a simple yet sturdy practice mat, ideal for both novice swordsmen and experts who wish to train their precision, strength, and technique with a katana or wakizashi.

The Way of the Perfect Cut

Before the cut, comes the preparation. The mat must be tightly rolled , carefully tied , and soaked in water for several hours , allowing the straw to swell and reach the necessary density. Once dry, the mat becomes a worthy target for the steel. Each cut will reveal the balance between the blade and its wielder.

In addition to their martial use, these mats can also be used as decorative or utilitarian elements , whether in Japanese interiors, oriental gardens or as traditional coverings.

The Test of the True Warrior

Facing the tatami is more than a technique: it's an art. It's a moment of connection between the warrior, his blade, and the emptiness it cuts. Honor that tradition with an omote tatami that lives up to the samurai legacy.
