High-quality Cold Steel® Tomahawks are precision-forged from 1055 carbon steel. When producing impact tools, especially those equipped with a cutting edge, drop forging offers many clear advantages. Using multiple dies (hollow molds/die) connected to massive forging hammers, the steel is shaped step by step into a completely homogeneous mass and pressed by impact to achieve uniform grain flow and minimize defect formation. All Cold Steel® Tomahawks have also been differentially hardened: the cutting edge and striking surface of the hammer are fully hardened for sharpness, while the rest of the head is kept softer to absorb shock and impact.

Cold Steels® Spike Hawk features a drop-forged, differentially hardened blade and a tough steel tip. This unusual axe is popular with sport throwers because it can deeply penetrate wooden targets with both the blade and tip, doubling the chances of a successful throw!
