The gladiator Spiculus was admired and favored by the Roman Emperor Nero for his fighting skills. Spiculus was handsomely rewarded for his achievements in the arena, with Nero rewarding him with gifts and palaces. According to legend, when Nero knew he was about to die, he had his servants summon Spiculus to kill him, but to no avail.



Windlass designed this gladius to be true to its era yet worthy of a champion (a simple gladius was, of course, the sword carried by all common legionaries). The carbon steel blade is extra-long (approximately 61 cm) for extended reach in crucial moments of mortal combat. Despite its extra length, this sword weighs less than 1 kg and feels light and especially lively in the hand. The handle is made of natural bone and contrasts beautifully with the dark-stained wooden pommel and guard (as bone is a natural material, the colour and grain may vary slightly from sword to sword).



The scabbard is made according to a historical model: made of wood and wrapped in reddish-brown dyed leather. The golden fittings make the scabbard a pleasure to look at and show relief depictions of a lion and a gladiator. The pommel of the sword has a gold-plated blade layer.



Includes matching wooden sheath with leather sheath.
