Give away RM Chain Holder for Helmet, Riveted and Drilled, Di 6mm
RM braided chain for helmets, riveted and perforated, id 6 mm
- Very authentic and totally suitable for show battles -
A helmet braid is a chain mail that was used in the Middle Ages to attach additional protection for the neck and shoulders to the helmet. The preferred types of helmet here were the nasal helmet, but especially the late medieval close-fitting helmet and its variant, the hundsgugel.
This ulfberth chain collar has an authentic serrated braided edge and a sewn-in strip of thick cowhide. The customer must attach holes for the helmet to these leather strips.
For attachment to helmets such as: b. hundsgugeln or bascinet.
The RM chain mail is made of rings with a diameter of only 6 mm. According to the original templates, it consists of a row of riveted rings (round rivet heads) and a row of perforated rings. Due to the extremely small diameter of the rings, these chain mail could then and now be made of steel with a material thickness of only 1 mm without losing their strength. This results in a weight reduction of approximately 30 - 35 %.
We shortened this type of braid to rm (English = roman m aille) because it was already very popular among the Celts and Romans (hamata). This ring-weave braid was in use throughout the late Middle Ages.
