This shield is a smaller replica of an ancient tower shield (called a scutum ) from the 1st/2nd century AD, as used by Roman legionaries in the Imperial era.
To convert. True Roman soldiers never left camp without their shields. The shield was part of the armor ( lorica ), the helmet ( galea ) and the short sword ( gladius ).
Equipment for every brave legionnaire.
This Roman shield for small legionaries is made of approximately 8 mm thick wood. It is covered in linen, hand painted on the front and has a generous shield-shaped escutcheon.
(Called umbo ) made of steel. The horizontal handle, located at the back, just behind the hump, is also made of wood.
With this wooden shield, every child will be well prepared to defend his castle. This makes the Roman camp, the carnival party or the local playground become a great stage.
