Scutum, authentic shield of the Roman legionary

Many replicas of Roman shields do not come close to the original finds and sometimes differ greatly in size, shape and design from traditional finds. The ulfberth® team has addressed this problem and has finally brought a much more authentic reconstruction to the market with this scutum.

The size and curvature correspond to Roman shields from ca. 40 - 200 AD. The shield ledge (umbo) and the shield rim are made of tinned brass and therefore closely resemble the original tinned bronze applications. For practical reasons, the shield socket is fixed only with screws and round screw covers. The back of the shield is reinforced with wooden slats.
