Many Roman shield replicas bear no resemblance to the original finds and sometimes differ greatly in size, shape, and design from traditional finds. The ulfberth® team has addressed this issue and has finally brought a much more authentic reconstruction to market with this scutum.

The size and curvature correspond to Roman shields from around 40–200 AD. The shield projection (umbo) and shield rim are made of tin-plated brass and thus closely resemble the original tin-plated bronze applications. For practical reasons, the shield socket is secured solely with round screws and screw covers. The back of the shield is reinforced with wooden slats.
