Short Sax with Bone Handle – The Edge of the Germanic Peoples
Traditional Saxon knife, with a steel and bone core
Amid the northern mists, where the forest was both a refuge and a battlefield, the Sax —or Seax —was the faithful companion of the Germanic peoples. Used by the Saxons, Franks, and other tribal clans of the Early Middle Ages, this knife served not only as a defensive weapon but also as an essential tool of everyday life , in camps, on the road, and in homes.
Forged with Tradition, Assembled with Nobility
This short sax is a reconstruction inspired by archaeological finds and historical sources. Its steel blade offers a robust and functional shape, while its handle combines natural materials such as bone, horn, and steel , in a beautifully handcrafted synthesis. The bone handle finished in steel , along with a metal disc guard and a decorative horn plate , reflects the mastery of ancient Germanic blacksmiths.
This Sax includes a sturdy brown leather sheath , ready to hang proudly from your belt. Each knife is slightly different , as the grain of the bone varies, giving each knife its unique identity . A version with a horn handle is also available, ideal for those who want to complement their collection with historical variants.
