Small Viking saxophone knife with bone/brass handle in Borre style, 9th/10th century.



This small all-purpose knife from the Viking Age, also called a broken-back sax due to its special blade shape, has a short, hand-forged blade made of carbon steel with a strong back. The impressive polished bone handle is decorated on both sides with beautiful Nordic engravings in the Borre style (ca. 850-950 AD) and ends at the blade with a brass ferrule. At the other end, the handle cap, also made of brass, has a practical steel eyelet with a brass ring for attaching a lanyard or for conveniently removing the knife from the sheath (lanyard not included).



The Viking Age short saxophone comes with a sturdy and artistically decorated case made of vegetable-tanned leather with a hand-engraved braided pattern. Bone reinforcement plates, brass rivets and two brass hanging rings in the shape of coiled snakes beautifully complete the look of the case.



Although the knife is fully functional, the edge has become dull. If necessary, it would need to be sharpened for daily use. Please note, however, that this Viking knife is primarily intended as a collector's or decorative item. The tip of the blade is not rounded and is not suitable for show fighting!
