Gift Viking Saxophone With Wire Wrapped Handle
Viking saxophone knife with wire-wrapped handle
Although the sax (also called skramasax ) is most often associated with the Vikings, it was widespread throughout Germanic, Scandinavian and Saxon/Anglo-Saxon societies from the Migration Period into the Early Middle Ages. Worn by both men and women, it was a versatile sword that was used as a weapon of war, an everyday tool or an object of prestige. Extant examples demonstrate that this special type of knife or dagger could vary greatly not only in shape and design, but also in quality (finds range from simple, roughly crafted examples to magnificent, lavishly decorated show pieces) and size.
In terms of size, the handmade Viking sax knife we offer here is on the threshold between a long dagger and a short sword. It has an unsharpened, single-edged EN45 spring steel blade with a strong spine, a pointed tip and a full tang screwed to the pommel. The guard and pommel are made of steel and the handle section with a wooden core is firmly wrapped with wire. All components are blackened, which makes the handle a real eye-catcher and gives the early medieval knife an elegant, yet dark and rustic character.
The Viking dagger comes with a sturdy, high-quality sheath made of 4mm thick vegetable-tanned leather with beautiful braided stitching.
This Viking saxophone is designed as a collector's item or decorative object, but it is also ideal as an accessory (for example, to complete your costume) and will make your transformation into a proud Nordic warrior simply perfect.
