Viking Long Sax (Seax) with Bone Handle and Norse Ravens Hugin and Munin
Long Sax (Seax), Viking Sax (Seax) knife, bone handle with Norse ravens, hugin and munin
This Viking Age Sax (Seax) knife (also called broken-back Sax (Seax) due to its special blade shape) has a long, hand-forged carbon steel blade with a strong spine. It is not fully polished, and the blade surface still shows the layer of black forged scales and traces of forging, giving the knife a rustic, authentic character.
The striking and absolutely beautiful handle is made of bone, polished, and decorated with beautiful engravings of Odin's two messenger ravens, Hugin and Munin (or Huginn and Muninn), and their names in Norse runes. In Norse mythology, ravens fly over Asgard and Midgard and return in the evening to the father of the gods (also called Hrafnáss , the raven god) to tell him everything they have seen and heard. The pair of birds is a recurring motif in Celtic and Viking art.
The Viking Long Sax (Seax) comes with a beautiful sheath made of durable, vegetable-tanned leather with hand-engraved Norse-style knotwork and antique-finished brass fittings, including two hanging rings. The bird motif depicted on the handle is repeated on one side of the scabbard. Each raven here is cast in brass and secured with rivets.
Although the Viking knife is fully functional, the edge has only been honed. If necessary, it would need to be re-sharpened to improve its sharpness. Please note that this skramasax was primarily designed as a decorative or collectible item and is not suitable for exhibition combat!
