Long saxophone made of birka, Viking saxophone knife, with carbon steel blade and wooden/bone handle



This Viking Age knife with a sharp carbon steel blade is based on finds from Björkö/Birka (grave 944), Sweden. The handle made of wood and bone has an oval cross-section and therefore lies firmly in the hand. The brass handle cap is equipped with a practical lanyard hole (leather strap is included). The bone handle is decorated with elaborate and elegant details. Since the knife is entirely handmade, these decorations may vary slightly from one specimen to the next. Please also note that bones are a natural product and that variations in colour and/or grain are quite common. Therefore, no two handles of this Birka sax are the same and the images above are for illustrative purposes only.



The beautiful sheath is made of vegetable-tanned and hand-dyed leather and decorated with elegant brass fittings. Thanks to three leather loops attached to brass rings, this scramasax can be worn horizontally on the belt in typical Viking style. The original birka finds also served as a model for the stylised details of the sheath.

The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion. We recommend taking care of your Viking knife regularly, for example with Ballistol, a universal oil suitable for preserving steel products.
