Lumberjack Saxophone

Did you know that the name of the Saxons comes from the knife they carried with them? In fact, the Saxon knife played such an important role in the daily life of this tribe that the entire village was named after it.

So what was so special about this knife, which was widely used between the 6th and 12th centuries? The answer is simple: it was easy and inexpensive to make, as well as incredibly versatile and effective. As a rule, it had no handguard, just a simple wooden or bone handle. The long, broad, powerful blade had a straight edge and a convex spine that sloped towards the tip (easy to forge), making it ideal for chopping, slicing, and carving. In addition, the sax was also a proven combat knife, as thanks to its pronounced front weight and slanted blade tip, it could deliver terrible blows and stabs effortlessly.

Over the years, Cold Steels®'s fascination with the history and performance potential of the saxophone continued to grow, and it was now decided to create a simpler version, called the Woodsman Sax . Like some surviving historical examples, the Woodsman has a sturdy 11" (28 cm) long blade with the characteristic slanted tip and a smooth handle made of wood (of exotic origin).

Each saxophone is delivered with a robust, historically faithfully reproduced leather case with belt loops and elegant solid brass buckles.

1055 carbon steel

The carbon content and relatively low levels of other materials in this steel make it a very stable material, free of the brittleness inherent in most high carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that need to have a high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes and swords.
