Beagnoth Gold and Silver Inlaid Sax (Seax) - Limited
Sax (Seax) by beagnoth - limited deluxe version
Replica of a 9th-century Anglo-Saxon longsax, limited to 250 pieces worldwide. The original was found in London's River Thames in 1857 and is now on display at the British Museum. For this reason, it is also called the Thames scramasax or Thames sword .
The blade is elaborately engraved and bears a runic inscription, the first part of which represents the Anglo-Saxon futhark (= alphabet). The second part of the inscription is beagnoth , probably the name of the wielder or armorer.
Our reconstruction is very similar in shape and dimensions to the early medieval original. Like the original, the inscription is represented in gold and silver inlays. In addition to the inscription, the single-edged blade has a continuous, narrow, but fairly deep groove. The blade is unsharpened and the surface is blued. The wooden handle grips are attached to the tang with brass rivets.
The scope of delivery includes a wooden wall display with a numbered certificate of authenticity and a sturdy and elegant cowhide case. Unlike the conventional version, the case of the limited edition replica features four brass appliqués with a knot pattern.
