Cast iron pan with folding handle (patera), steel

Very nice replica of a late Roman frying pan, called patera. The original was found in a tomb near the Gelduba fort (Krefeld-Gellep, Germany) and dates back to the 3rd century AD.

Although the pan is clearly Roman, it can also be used to represent later periods.

The folding handle is attached to the pan by two rivets. The pan has, like the original, a thick spout on the side and is blackened and blacksmith-oiled.
