Gift German Gothic Sallet with Long Neck Guard, 15th Century, 2mm Steel

German Gothic Schaller with extended neck guard, 15th century, 2 mm steel

In the 15th century, the helmet known as the schaller replaced the saucer hood . By mid-century, it had become one of the most widely used combat helmets throughout Europe. This type of helmet existed in many shapes and variations, from simple to elaborate, open or peaked, with more or less pronounced neck protection, etc., and was especially popular in Italy ( celata ). , Germany, France ( salade ) and England ( sallet ) are very popular.

The hand-forged, portable Gothic helmet we offer here is made of 2 mm thick steel and is therefore suitable for show combat. The one-piece molded helmet bell has a long neck guard and a slight crest or ridge running across the crown. It is equipped with a movable visor secured with steel rivets. When closed, the folding visor leaves a viewing space approximately 1.5 cm wide and 17 cm long with the lower edge extended forward, ensuring sufficient visibility and air circulation.

The blackened interior features an adjustable leather insert secured with rivets (the neck guard is also leather-lined). The leather chin strap is fitted with a steel buckle.

This late medieval visored helmet will make your transformation into a noble knight simply perfect, and of course, it's also an excellent decorative addition to any helmet collector's treasure trove.
