Discover German Parade Saber with Lion Head and Steel Scabbard
German parade saber with lion head, officer's saber with steel scabbard
A German parade saber, also called a lion's head saber because of its special pommel shape.
Lionhead-pommeled sabers were often part of the uniform of Prussian and German army officers. They were represented in many variations and were still used by the high ranks of the German army during both World Wars of the 20th century.
Although this beautiful and affordable sword is not an exact replica of a historical original, it is based on the design of the ceremonial sabers that German officers wore with their dress uniforms during World War II.
The thin, slightly curved EN45 spring steel blade is unsharpened and has a groove approximately 54 cm long. The blunt edge is approximately 1 mm thick, and the continuous tang is screwed into the end of the handle.
The vessel consists of a handle with a loop cap and a handlebar attached to the crosspiece. The pommel is in the shape of a lion's head with two inset ruby-red eyes, and the back of the handle and the ferrule are decorated with an opulent floral pattern. The open, richly decorated crosspiece (English: stirrup = stirrup) emerges from the lion's mouth and merges with the equally lavishly decorated crosspiece. This has elaborately designed guard handles and ends with a downward-curving guard in the shape of a lion's head. The wooden core handle section is wrapped with leather and brass wire. The bow, the lion's-head grip cap, the back of the grip, the ferrule, and the crosspiece, including the tang, are made of brass.
The full-length saber is delivered with a matching nickel-plated steel scabbard with two rings, movable support rings, and a metal end piece.
This German saber with a lion's head pommel is not suitable for combat, but is a highly decorative collector's item and also ideal as a prop, for example, for the theater.
