Acquire Ronin Katana

Ronin katana

The Story of the 47 Ronin is one of the most famous and influential samurai tales of the Edo period.

Lord Asano was a powerful daimyo entrusted by the shogun with keeping the guests of the imperial family happy. For this task, Kira, who held the highest rank in protocol, was responsible for training and teaching etiquette to Asano and others. A dislike quickly developed between Lord Asano and Kira, with the master insulting his student at every opportunity. No longer able to contain himself, Asano drew his sword on Kira, wounding him in the attack. This act led to Asano's ordered suicide ( seppuku ) and the confiscation of his possessions. On December 14, 1702, one year after Asano's death, 47 of his men (now ronin ) marched toward Kira's mansion seeking revenge. After a fierce battle, the victorious ronin demanded seppuku from Kira to atone for his transgressions against his former master. When he refused, he was executed. The ronin themselves were sentenced to seppuku for their actions. They were buried together at Sengakuji, offering an image of the samurai's true loyalty.

Paul Chen’s Ronin Koshirae Katana reflects the spirit of Lord Asano’s 47 Ronin. The Ronin Katana’s blackened iron tsuba represents Lord Asano’s companions on his vengeful march. The blade is hand-forged from Swedish powdered steel (K120C) and folded with hi in the traditional shinogi zukuri form. To protect the sword, each katana comes with a matching cloth sheath and a Japanese sword care kit.
