The historic roach belly had a short, sharply curved blade with a sharp tip. It probably got its name from the common roach, a carp-like fish with a similarly rounded belly, and was widespread in England and the American colonies in the 17th century. It has since lost none of its economy, versatility and performance.



When designing Cold Steels® in the interpretation, the original shape was maintained, but modern materials were used. The blade is forged from low-temperature treated 4116 stainless steel and has been expertly hardened to a rockwell hardness of 56-57 HRC. It has a razor-sharp cutting edge that can be easily re-sharpened. The traditional wooden handle has been replaced with a durable injection-molded polymer handle. It is much more weather-resistant than its historical counterparts and, unlike models made of wood, will not swell, shrink, rot or crack.



The Roach Belly comes with a durable secure-ex® sheath, making it easy to carry all day on longer hunting or camping trips.



4116 stainless steel knife

4116 steel is a fine-grained stainless knife steel. It is often used for pharmaceutical equipment and high-quality kitchen knives. Its balanced carbon-chromium ratio ensures first-class rust protection and high strength. Very fine and extremely sharp cutting edges can be ground. An excellent choice for hunting/outdoor knives and kitchen knives and utensils.
