Richard the Lionheart - Short Sword, Silver, Marto
Richard the Lionheart - short sword, silver, scabbard
The traditional image of Richard the Lionheart, the second Plantagenet king of England, as a glorious crusader and knight has evolved over the course of centuries. Captured by the Emperor of Austria, he was later rescued by the young minstrel Blondel, who saw Richard singing a famous ballad. Richard was called the Lionheart at the beginning of the Third Crusade, when Philip of France was compared to a lamb and Richard to a lion. He convinced his officers at Winchester that they belonged to the Arthurian legend around the Round Table and that they possessed the magic sword Excalibur. Richard was a generous knight and a wise politician, but above all, a great soldier. His own personal skill was an inspiration to his men in battle. Richard gained a reputation as a leader and warrior and became known as Richard the Lionheart.
