Acquires Rheingönheim Cingulum, Roman Belt, 1st Century AD

Cingulum of Rheingönheim, Roman belt, leather with tinned brass fittings, 1st century AD

The Roman cingulum militare was a leather belt decorated with decorative metal plates and often fitted with brackets or devices for hanging the soldier's dagger. This war belt not only served to hold up the warrior's braccae (trousers) during battle, but was also a sign of military rank or honour.

The Roman girdle offered here is a replica of a find from the first half of the 1st century AD from the fort at Rheingönheim (Ludwigshafen), a former auxiliary camp on the banks of the Rhine. Although the girdle often included a leather apron made up of several narrow strips decorated with metal fittings (so-called pteryges or pteruges ), this was not present on the original artefact.

The hinged buckle, the movable pugio mounts and the decorative plates are made of tinned brass. The belt itself is made of sturdy 3mm thick leather and is also lined with suede on the inside to protect the tunic from the rivets holding the metal plates. The belt is pre-cut and adjustable to a variety of sizes. A leather cord is included for tying and attaching a dagger to the button-shaped pugio suspensions.

As an ideal accessory for Roman reenactment, LARP, stage or TV/film, this beautiful Roman belt will make your transformation into a proud warrior simply perfect.
