Acquires Rheingönheim Cingulum, Roman Belt, 1st Century AD

Rheingönheim Cingulum, Roman leather belt with tinned brass fittings, 1st century AD

The Roman cingulum militare was a leather belt decorated with decorative metal plates and often fitted with brackets or devices for hanging the soldier's dagger. This war belt not only served to support the warrior's braccae (trousers) during battle, but was also a sign of military rank or honor.

The Roman cincture offered here is a replica of a find from the first half of the 1st century AD, from the Rheingönheim fort (Ludwigshafen), a former auxiliary camp on the Rhine. Although the cincture often included a leather apron made of several narrow strips decorated with metal fittings (called pteryges or pteruges ), this was not present on the original artifact.

The hinged buckle, movable pugio holders, and decorative plates are made of tin-plated brass. The strap itself is made of sturdy 3 mm thick leather and is also lined with suede on the inside to protect the tunic from the rivets holding the metal plates. The belt is pre-cut and adjustable to a variety of sizes. A leather cord is included for tying and attaching a dagger to the button-shaped pugio holders.

As an ideal accessory for Roman reenactment, LARP, stage, or TV/film, this beautiful Roman belt will make your transformation into a proud warrior simply perfect.
