Delight in the Roman Shield Round Highlight, Umbo Made of Brass
Round Roman shield protuberance, umbo made of brass
Ideal for your own sign making projects.
The humps of the shield served both to protect against or deflect enemy blows and to accommodate the handle of the shield. However, in addition to their practical function, in some cases they also had a decorative purpose.
The round shield boss (called an umbo ) offered here is the ideal accessory for the discerning reenactor who wants to build his own Roman shield. It is ideal for a parma , but is also suitable for a scutum (note that the hump is not pre-curved; if mounted on a curved shield, it must be adjusted to the curvature of the shield before assembly).
The escutcheon cap is made of brass, blackened on the inside and pre-drilled with four holes. The fixing material (brass round head screws) is included in the scope of delivery.
