The Viking short-pointed spear is a typical example of a spear of Celtic origin that reached Scandinavia. The short blade, naturally more stable, more rigid and resistant to breakage, was quite capable of piercing the armour commonly used at the time.



The decorated Hanwei spearheads designed by Paul Chen reflect the creative mix of Viking arts and crafts. Back then, weapons were often decorated with elaborate patterns that could be created using the niello technique. An alloy of various metals (especially silver) was mixed with sulfur. The mixture was rubbed into previously engraved patterns and then fired. The engraved areas treated with this mixture remained black and the remaining surface was polished to a high shine. Although there is less alchemy involved in the decorative pattern-making process used by Hanwei, the result is still a long-lasting, shiny effect similar to that of niello .

Only the spearhead (without shaft) is included in the delivery.

This spearhead is hollow and therefore non-functional.
