This type of arm guards (voiders) were used in the late Middle Ages and were mainly worn on the clothing (gambeson), sewn or nested.

The frm type braid: is a European chain braid of flat rings, which was used with various modifications and uses from ancient times to the late Middle Ages. Rings of different diameters were made and used. It consists exclusively of flat chain rings. The rings and perforated rings are alternately joined together in the 4-in-1 braiding style. This weave was and is less labor-intensive than the fully riveted braid, as only every second ring is riveted. The riveted rings are riveted together using round rivets, from which a round, hemispherical rivet head is obtained. We abbreviate this authentic braid type frm. (= f mixed round rivets .)
