This samurai sword has been very finely polished. The tsuka , which is covered with ray skin, is wrapped with a cotton loop and held securely in place with two pins. The saya has been painted jet black and features a black cotton sageo .

The katana is given a special accent by a round kuruma-tsuba , which represents the dharmachakra (or wheel of dharma), which symbolizes the Buddhist concept of the noble eightfold path.
