Viking Pinafore Dress / Hilja Apron Dress With Embroidery, Blue SIZE S
Enjoy Viking Pichi / Hilja Apron Dress With Embroidery, Blue
Viking strap dress / hilja apron dress with embroidery, blue/mustard yellow
Strapless dresses were an integral part of the Viking costume. Basically, these outer dresses were characterised by their straps and simple tube shape. These dresses were available with slits, with so-called geren (fabric wedges), with pleats and in variants that overlapped in the centre of the front. The hem ended at calf height.
The Viking Age pinafore (also known as a dungarees, hanging skirt or smocked skirt ) had two different functions. While the plain version was worn as an apron to protect the clothing, the decorated version was more of a status symbol and was decorated with borders, embroidery, chains and shell brooches. This way of dressing is historically documented by finds from haithabu and birka depictions.
Our slip dress is made of sturdy canvas (100% cotton) and is therefore very durable. It has a loose cut and slits at the sides. The hem, straps and neckline are in contrasting colours. The embroidery on the chest is in the jelling style (also jellinge style ) and depicts two dragons or snakes. The motif dates back to the 18th century and can be found on the Danish king's silver goblet. Gorm is nowhere to be found. The decorative stitching on the hem and neckline consists of hexagonal stitches. This type of stitch was already known in the early Middle Ages and was especially popular for hems.
For a harmonious Nordic outfit, we recommend a simple Viking dress, a narrow leather belt, can or bowl brooches and a leather bag.
