Presents Heavy U.S. Cavalry Saber 1860.
The U.S. heavyweight cavalry saber of 1860
In the American Civil War, two types of sabers were issued to Union cavalry: light and heavy . Although the light version was also popular, many considered the heavy model, nicknamed the Old Wrist Breaker , to be the proper saber to carry into battle. Its blade, over 3 feet long, offered much greater reach than most sabers, and its considerable weight gave it excellent strength and leverage. The stout brass basket handle had three struts to protect the hand, and the wire-wrapped, leather-covered handle section culminated in a sturdy pommel.
For its own version, Cold Steel® drew inspiration from antique pieces in private collections. The 1055 carbon steel blade is spring-tempered and would pass the British Proof Test (Epee Proof). This beautiful saber comes with a steel sheath with two carrying rings, making it easy to attach to a saddle or belt.
Carbon steel 1055
The carbon content and relatively low levels of other materials in this steel make it a very stable material, free from the brittleness inherent in most high-carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that require high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes, and swords.
