The Lion Dog Wakizashi features an o-kissaki blade made from Hanwei's high-alloy HWS-1S steel, which combines outstanding performance with excellent o-choji ( hamon ) hardness.

This steel is manufactured in Hanwei's new high-tech forging, resulting in a state-of-the-art blade that is one of the best Hanwei has ever produced in terms of edge retention and durability.

HWS-1S steel blades owe their excellent performance characteristics to a combination of carefully selected alloy materials and complex processing in which the carbon content of the steel is manipulated along the length of the blade. The result is a very robust and durable blade with a hard, wear-resistant edge. The decorated and detailed fittings include a blackened iron tsuba with a guardian lion motif, matching fuchi and kashira , and a golden peony menuki . The elaborate saya consists of a high-gloss lacquered, fluted section at the koiguchi/kurikata and a splattered-painted underside, giving it a very attractive appearance.
