The Lion Dog Wakizashi features an O-Kissaki blade made of Hanwei's high-alloy HWS-1S steel, which combines outstanding performance with an excellent O-Choji ( Hamon ) line of hardness.

This steel is manufactured in Hanwei's new high-tech forge and the result is a state-of-the-art blade that is one of the best Hanwei has ever produced in terms of edge retention and durability.

HWS-1S steel blades owe their excellent performance characteristics to a combination of carefully selected alloy materials and complex processing in which the carbon content of the steel is manipulated along the length of the blade. The result is a very robust and durable blade with a hard, wear-resistant cutting edge. Decorated and detailed fittings include a blackened iron tsuba with a guardian lion motif, matching fuchi and kashira , and a golden peony as a menuki . The elaborate saya is composed of a fluted, glossy lacquered section on the koiguchi/kurikata and a splash-look painted underside, providing a very attractive appearance.
