Mini-targe, small round Scottish shield with brass fittings



The Scottish highlander's aim was not only to be an effective tool for defence against enemy attacks, but also very effective as an attack weapon.



The handheld target offered here is a scaled-down version of the famous highland target designed for use by the Jacobites (followers of the expelled Stuart king James II and his descendants) in late 17th and 18th century Scotland. The 17th century is the best known. Its lavish decoration is inspired by several original historical pieces.



Although this hand-made mini-target is only half the size of a classic round Scottish shield, it looks just as good as its larger counterparts. It is made of wood and covered in treated natural leather, which is fastened with brass rivets. There is a brass boss in the centre of the shield. The beautifully decorated front is crafted with Celtic-style reliefs and adorned with numerous decorative brass rivets. The suede-covered back of the shield is fitted with two shield restraints made of sturdy and stable leather, which are firmly fixed with brass rivets.



This little Scottish target is simply a perfect accessory for reenactors and collectors.
