Combs are among the oldest known human tools. In the Middle Ages, they were used not only for combing hair, but also for preparing wool and other natural fibers for spinning and felting.


For added stability, the back of the comb has been reinforced with two bands of bone. However, bone is a fragile material, so the comb must be handled carefully.
