Balaclava or burgonet, 3-piece, 2 mm steel
- Suitable for show combat -
The balaclava (also called a burgonet ) emerged from the sallet in the early 16th century. Another name is the Burgundian schaller. The balaclava was especially popular among infantry soldiers such as pikemen and landsknechts, but later also among light cavalry, thus becoming the most widely used type of helmet in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Our reconstruction has the typical pronounced helmet crest. The cheek flaps are movable and can even be removed thanks to removable splints. The helmet comes with neck supports: an authentic, yet foldable, closed version and a rigid, SCA-compatible version with a grid. Of course, it can also be used without a halter if a wider field of vision is required.
The helmet has a comfortable leather inlay and a chin strap.
