Enjoy Haithabu Viking Bone Pin, Clothes Pin, Hairpin
Viking bone pin made of haithabu, clothes pin, hairpin
This Viking hairpin was inspired by an original find from the settlement of Haithabu, the most important Viking trading centre in Jutland (near Schleswig). The needle, made of genuine bone, has a carved dragon head motif on the wider end.
Bone needles were very common in the Viking Age, as they represented a cheaper alternative to the expensive metal versions. Hairpins of this type were therefore found throughout the area where the Vikings settled between 800 and 1100 AD, including Birka, York, Haithabu and Trondheim. However, the Vikings did not only use needles of this type as hair accessories, but also as fasteners for clothing or brooches, for example to fasten cloaks.
This beautiful piece of jewelry is an excellent example of ancient Norse art that will beautifully complete your early medieval attire, whether at medieval markets, Viking events or reenactment events, and make it look even more authentic. Of course, this Viking ornament is also a great accessory in modern everyday life to stylishly fix your hair.
