The legal status of switchblades in terms of acquisition, possession, handling, transport and transportation is very contradictory internationally. There are numerous different regulations depending on the respective state law.

Appendix 2 of the German Weapons Act (Waffg) lists prohibited weapons and objects. According to Section 2, Section 3, so-called switchblades are prohibited. The exception is switchblades whose blade protrudes from the side of the handle, is not ground on both sides and does not exceed a length of 8.5 cm. However, switchblades that meet all these conditions (and are therefore not subject to a ban) are still weapons within the meaning of the German Weapons Act. Accordingly, acquisition, possession and handling require a minimum age of 18 years.



Regarding the legal situation in Germany regarding the carrying of weapons in public, reference is made to Section 42a of the Weapons Act and we strongly recommend that everyone obtain information from the weapons law office of the police authority responsible for their district.
