For years, Cold Steel® has been thinking about creating a folding knife based on the famous Cold Steel® to create a tanto knife. Andrew Demko took on the task and, with input from Lynn Thompson, was able to find a suitable solution. The result is the Oyabun offered here!



The blade has a reinforced tip, a satin finish, has been expertly hardened (RC57 and cryogenic treatment) and holds the kind of incredibly sharp edge that Cold Steels® has established its reputation for. It is also equipped with an integrated flipper for effortless opening and locks firmly in place thanks to a patent-pending crossbow locking system for added security. The Oyabun lock/lock was first developed in the Cold Steels® Crawford 1 pocket knife and has proven to be quite robust and reliable.



The 4034 stainless steel blade is housed in a strong yet cost-effective handle, reinforced with stainless steel liners. The handle scales consist of an injection-molded Griv-Ex™ core covered with a smooth, grooved Kray-Ex™ outer layer and are attached to the frame with two heavy-duty screws.



4034ss stainless steel

A mid-range stainless steel from Japan whose higher chromium content ensures remarkable corrosion resistance. This steel is also relatively easy to grind and has relatively good wear resistance. It is often used for kitchen knives/cutlery or for smaller knives that are generally of good quality but still offered at a low cost.
