For years, Cold Steel® considered creating a folding knife based on the famous Cold Steel® to create a tanto knife. Andrew Demko took on the task and, with input from Lynn Thompson, was able to find a suitable solution. The result is the Oyabun offered here!

The blade has a reinforced tip, a satin finish, has been expertly hardened (RC57 and cryogenic treatment), and has the kind of incredibly sharp edge that Cold Steels® has established a reputation for. It also features an integrated flipper for effortless opening and locks firmly in place thanks to a patent-pending crossbow locking system for added security. The Oyabun's lock/lock was first developed at Cold Steels® with the Crawford 1 pocket knife and has proven to be quite sturdy and reliable.

The 4034 stainless steel blade is housed in a durable yet cost-effective handle, reinforced with stainless steel liners. The handle scales consist of an injection-molded Griv-Ex™ core covered with a smooth, grooved Kray-Ex™ outer layer and are attached to the frame with two heavy-duty screws.

Stainless steel 4034ss

A mid-range stainless steel from Japan whose high chromium content ensures remarkable corrosion resistance. This steel is also relatively easy to grind and has relatively good wear resistance. It is often used for kitchen knives/cutlery or for smaller knives that are generally of good quality but still offer a low price.
