Discover Nagi Gatana, Battle Swords
Nagi Gatana, Battleblades
Meet Battleblades' heaviest and toughest slashing weapon, a ferocious hybrid: the nagi-gatana. The magnificent weapon known as the naginata is an iconic long weapon with a devastatingly effective, curved, single-edged blade. It was used by samurai and ashigaru in feudal Japan. While it shares many similar elements with traditional katanas, the naginata has greater reach and astonishing cutting power. Battleblades has combined the best elements of both weapons to create a two-handed sword with the curvature of a naginata and the elegance of a katana: the nagi-gatana.
The elegance of the hand-forged Nagi Gatana sword
Combining the elegance and unique beauty of the delicate traditional Japanese katana with the range of motion and raw power of the naginata was no easy feat. The nagasa is slightly shorter than the usual katana blade, but has a wider motohaba and a wider blade tip. The tsuka is shorter than a naginata, but the blade is wider than a katana. The curved blade provides a long cutting surface without increasing the overall length of the weapon. The nagi-gatana is fairly heavy, but it can be handled quickly and is well balanced, as the unokubi-zukuri shape reduces blade clumsiness. The weight combined with the curved blade ensures maximum cutting power. It is forged from T10 steel and decorated with our aggressive, visible, real clay-hardened hamon and double bo-hi.
The extra-long, naginata-inspired tsuka was designed not only to balance the weapon but also to ensure maximum cutting torque. The tsuka features genuine Samegawa ray leather beneath a silk ito wrapped in hinerimaki and is decorated with iron fuchi and kashira, and a brass tsuba. Custom-made brass habaki and naginata menuki complete the excellent koshirae. Battleblades guarantees that you'll be amazed by the nagi-gatana's swift, effortless handling and center of gravity.
To make a special sword, a special scabbard is required. Nagi-gatana's fully custom-made fine wood saya is paired with a black silk sageo with gold polka dots and a buffalo horn kurigata and koiguchi. The light brown wood stain layer gives the saya a luxurious touch. Each stunning saya has been handcrafted and precisely fitted to its sword, meaning no other sword—not even another Battleblades nagi-gatana—would fit this saya.
The sword comes with an embroidered silk Battleblades pouch and a serial numbered certificate.
