Acquires Burgundian Monastery, 15th Century, 1.6mm Steel

Burgundy aconite, 15th century, 1.6 mm steel

This late medieval helmet is a reproduction of a late 15th-century Burgundian monk's helmet. It was modelled on historical originals (one of which is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York). It impresses with its simple but beautiful design, as well as its fluted hood, which distinguishes it from the rest.

This rather simple, brimmed hat-shaped helmet was worn throughout Europe by infantrymen, archers, crossbowmen, pikemen and men-at-arms in the High and Late Middle Ages, and owes its English name ( kettle hat) to its similarity to a cooking pot (originally called a teapot ).

Although aconites existed in many variations, they all had the same main feature: a wide brim that provided good protection not only against sword blows launched from above, but also against showers of arrows or other projectiles fired or thrown from above. This highly effective protective design, which did not restrict the wearer's vision, hearing, or breathing, proved advantageous in infantry sieges and mass battles and contributed significantly to the enduring popularity of this type of helmet.

The reconstruction we offer here is made of 1.6 mm (16 gauge) steel and is therefore only suitable for combat use to a limited extent. The blackened interior has a riveted adjustable leather inlay and the 3 mm adjustable leather chin strap is fitted with an antiqued brass buckle.

This beautiful wearable helmet is suitable for light combat, reenactment, larp, stage or tv/film and will complete your transformation into a proud medieval warrior. Of course, the medieval helmet is also an excellent addition to every helmet collector's treasure trove.
