Get Manual Stone Turning Mill
Rotary stone mill
The millstone was probably already in use in pre-Roman times in Europe and the Near East. Our replica is based on Roman originals, but these stones are, of course, also suitable for a medieval representation.
The hand mill consists of two disc-shaped stones connected by an iron pin in the center. The ground material, such as grain, is placed in the middle. The upper grinding stone is then moved by the eccentrically inserted wooden handle, and the grain is ground by friction.
But our rotary mill is an accessory! The ground and broken grain should not be consumed, as the stone itself also exhibits some abrasion. It remains a great device for demonstrating the simple ancient and medieval milling technique.
Details:
- Material: natural sandstone (color may vary slightly from specimen to specimen) - Diameter: approx. 30 cm
- Thickness of the stone discs: approx. 5 cm.
- Weight: approx. 15 kg.
